Mobile Massage Clients: If you are interested in mobile massage options and are not a client of mine, you must either have a positive reference from a current client or have had one in-office session with me. If your situation does not allow for an in-office visit, let me know and we will set up a virtual meeting.

Every massage I give is a custom massage. Below are the modalities (types of massage) that I mix and match to best meet the goals we establish at the beginning of your session.

SWEDISH MASSAGE
This is your classic, relaxing massage experience. Swedish massage combines long, gliding strokes, kneading strokes, short “friction” strokes staying on one area of the muscle and gently pulling away, and sometimes bouncing, percussive taps. The goal is relaxation and increased circulation with all strokes moving toward the heart. This is a grounding, calming massage.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MR)
This is my take on traditional MR and a slower version of the popular “deep tissue” massage. The goal is smoothing out restrictions in your body’s fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds just about everything in your body), specifically focusing on the fascia surrounding your muscles down to the individual fibers. After warming the tissue in the desired area, I apply sustained pressure within the stroke, stretch the skin in one direction, and wait for your muscles to let me move. Some people say it’s like my hand or elbow is “melting” through their muscles. I’ll let you be the judge of that.

NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY (NmT)
Neuromuscular therapy treats Triggerpoints found in the body’s muscles through sustained pressure on the single point in that muscle. Triggerpoints are microcontractions within the muscle fiber that won’t stop actively contracting. When “triggered”, they present specific pain patterns—some of which can be mis-labeled as or a factor in common conditions like sciatica, TMJD, or chronic neck and back pain.

SPORTS MASSAGE
Great for pre/post performance readiness and recovery by combining various modalities for the following goals: PRE-performance aspect focuses on warming up the muscle groups needed, targeting known problem areas, and going through short ranges of motion to prepare for performance; POST-performance aspect focuses on warming up and separating individual muscles within the large muscle groups, targeting fascial adhesions, and can include a longer, slower stretching portion all to help your body recover.

ASSISTED STRETCHING
This is great for clients who prefer to remain clothed during a session. I utilize techniques such as: Active Isolated Stretching (the client performs the motion of the stretch with assist from me at the end range holding no longer than two seconds; this technique optimally lengthens the target muscle without triggering the protective stretch reflex) and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation aka PNF Stretching (alternates contracting the muscle through resistance at various lengths and then bringing the muscle further into the stretch). This can be used as an entire appointment in itself or integrated into a regular session.

* PRENATAL MASSAGE
This massage session is just as therapeutic as a normal massage, but is mindful of the special considerations of bodies that are growing little humans. Body position is adjusted during the session to provide support where it is needed (reclined and side-lying positions are utilized), and pressure points in the hands and ankles are avoided. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, ask your doctor if massage is right for you before booking your appointment.

* MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
This modality uses light, circular pumping motions to affect the lymphatic system of the body and move stagnant lymph fluid from the extremities back through the system to be recycled. This is particularly effective to reduce post-surgical or post-traumatic edema (swelling) and reduce symptoms in those with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. NOTE: I am not certified to work with lymphedema clients.

* Denotes a modality used under specific circumstances and sometimes only after the approval of client’s physician.
